Watch the noodle master in actionQuick, cheap, cheerful and ever so popular, this suburban dining destination for lovers of dumplings and noodles will often have people queuing out the door in anticipation. Mr Wong, the noodle master, uses the traditional methods of the noodle houses of the north-western Chinese province of Lanzhou to stretch and pull the dough into noodle perfection - fascinating to watch. A dumpling master works alongside gently folding delicate pillows and tossing them into a huge steamer basket nearby.
Normally having to queue for a table is frustrating but you actually look forward to it here as it gives you a prime position to watch Mr Wong, the master noodle chef, in action pulling, stretching and looping until long, perfectly formed noodles are created. If noodles aren’t your thing but dumplings grab you, there is also a dedicated dumpling maker folding and pleating delicate pillows of pleasure ready to toss into a nearby steamer. Arguably Melbourne’s best value restaurant, it’s cheap, cheerful and fun, so it’s small wonder locals flock here for a no frills but delicious and satisfying ...read more

Once again I have found a restaurant that is close to the type of restaurant that I experienced in Hong Kong. Okay, you are unlikely to get the tables spilling out onto the streets, but you certainly are going to get chop-sticks (I love eating with chop-sticks), and a booklet that contains pictures of the various dishes that are on offer. Whatever you do though, don't make my mistake and point at the wrong picture because I wanted the beef rice and ended up with the eggplant (not that it was bad in fact it was pretty good, it was just that I wanted beef). The staff are quite friendly, but then that is what I have come to expect from these close to authentic Chinese restaurants. They also have pots of Chinese tea for $1.00 each, which is quite good value, but then again you can get a pretty decent feed here for under $10.00 anyway. Oh, and they also have Tsing Tao available, but then again it wouldn't be an authentic Chinese restaurant without the Tsing Tao.
The food used to be good the couple of times I visited it. Staff was always terrible.
I had asked if I could pay by credit card before the meal as I had no cash on me. The staff informed me that a bill of more than $20 was necessary for the use of the credit card. OK. So I ordered promptly three dishes which came up to more than $20. When I asked for bill it was less than $20 and the same staff refused to accept my credit card. Imagine my anger. I explained calmly to them that I did order more than $20 and had checked beforehand that I was going to use my credit card. The insisted I pay an extra charge of 50cents for my credit card use. By this time, I was too furious and tired of their attitude and food to argue. The quality of their service and food is unacceptable.
