Went on a Sunday afternoon which seems to be the most popular night and had to wait over an hour for a table- (they dont take booking) but it was definetly work the wait!
Had a mocktail as im not drinking at the moment while we were waiting for our table and it was to die for!
The entres are fantastic and the spaghetti with crab baked in a paper bag is definitely worth ordering-YUM!
We arrive on here on an overcast Sunday afternoon, meeting friends for a late lunch. However, the clouds had not deterred other diners and drinkers from descending on NBI with the same plan as us. The front area near the door is packed full of stylish eastern-suburbians sipping on mohitos, Peronis and champagne while they wait to be seated. We put our name down, are told politely "that will be at least an hour", so we order a round of camparis with pink grape fruit juice. The juice is freshly squeezed and the beverage is a refreshing, tangy delight. After a bit over an hour and several beverages we are led to our table. The room is buzzing and has a great vibe. The service is quick and quality and when our meals arrive we all agree it was well worth the wait. The signature 'crab in a bag' pasta is to die for: fresh Italian pasta in a tomato-based sauce with generous lashings of crab meat. The lamb ragout is also amazing. For dessert we share some gelato with 3 different ...read more
North Bondi Italian has got to be the coolest address in Bondi. Overlooking the beach at the Northern End you will often find the trendiest crowd in Sydney. I feel the best time to go is a sunny Sunday afternoon, but you will find that on any given night you are likely to run into the whos who of the Sydney social scene. The restaurant is set up such that you can enjoy a cocktail by the bar overlooking the beach shared with some unshelled peanuts or enjoy a meal with friends either inside or on the balcony. NBI doesnt take bookings so turning up for drink at the bar beforehand is all part of the experience. You cant go to wrong with your choice of dish from the menu, however you will find much of the restaurant tucking into to their signature Spaghetti crab in a bag. The risotto balls are great for an entre and each table is given a selection of tasty bread with olive oil. For such a good menu, you will find that the restaurant is not overly expensive compared with ...read more
What is not to love about this place...maybe the offal, yuck, or the lack of convenient parking, or the fact that you cant book a table (very silly), but this place doesnt need to care about its short comings because the food, the ambience and the views more than compensate for them!
Sit at the bar and have a Campari and peanuts whilst one of the overall clap staff work overtime to clear a table for you and your guests. Seriously you will be so caught up in the vibes and views you will not notice the time pass as you wait to be seated.
The play on the Italian colours is funky and fresh without being overbearing, everything from the menus to the wall colours has this modern Italian feel about it, in a way that perfectly suit the surrounds and fast pace of the restaurant, seriously cool and seriously delicious!
North Bondi Italian Food is pretty awesome. The food, the view and the staff make for a formidable combination.
The restaurant is very funky, as are the staff. They look super relaxed in their overalls and white t shirts but they work super hard to ensure that your experience is memorable and for all the right reasons.
When visiting North Bondi Italian Food we usually have a drink at the bar first this is often due to the fact that you are unable to book a table and the restaurant is almost always full. Their bar staff are very entertaining and their cocktails are worth waiting for. When seated you are treated to soft sourdough bread with the best oil and balsamic vinegar the world has to offer. Their pastas are delectable. The Tagliatelle all Amatriciana is my favourite but I know most of my friends love the crab in a bag.
Get to NBI for a feast for all the senses.
