Nyala was my first ever foray into African cuisine. I must say that at the time I was very impressed. Perhaps that was more a result of the novelty of it. Since then I've had a few more dips in the African cuisine pool in & around Footscray, which seems to be somewhat of a haven for African eating, but if you are around Fitzroy & hankering for some African, you won't be disappointed.
One of the most pleasant dining experience I've had in Melbourne. The food was sensational (perfect to share) and a great cultural experience. Their service was very friendly and impeccable - I even sampled my first South African red wine! Dining here has given me a greater sense of (predominantly) Ethiopian dining.
I had never eaten African food before going to the Nyala African Restaurant, and I was not disappointed. There are both meat and vegetarian dishes, which are delicious and well presented. The serving sizes could be a little bigger for the price, however the taste alone was worth the cost.
