This was my only medical centre and I am a local. Two poor experiences:
1. Im a professional scientist who has worked 6 days a week for 15 years. Needed a medical certificate for a day off in the middle of a contract I was doing. I was sick and exhausted at the time due to being a mental health carer as well and having an overload. Doctor who saw me treated me like I was a welfare cheat.
2. Recently I was in bad pain, rang them and asked could I see a Doctor that afternoon got "no appointments available". Then silence. I asked about the next day. Yes I could come at 8.00am. Then silence. What a rude secretary. I should just turn the pain off all night?
Went down to Rydalmere Medical on Victoria Road. Got straight in. Friendly and competent. I will never go to Oatlands Family Medical again.
Have been going for almost four years, and with all due respect, unfortunately this medical practice has Doctors that have just not sat right with us for several reasons. One of the three doctors is just outright rude, the other gives text-book answers for children's issues, and the third always looks depressed and additionally, when the government was considering the $7 patient co-payment on bulk-billed GP visits, this Dr always made a point of mentioning at every visit, that this co-payment would be great for them (without me even bringing up the topic)....not something that your patients want to be reminded of every time they visit you.
In addition, we have always found this medical centre to have the rudest secretaries. We you or your family are sick, the LAST thing you want to see is a sour face and a rude attitude when you go to seek help at the GP. On top of this, they don't know how to manage patient appointments. We were "told off" one day for ...read more
I love this medical centre. Great doctors, who are caring and thorough. Even though I've moved out of area, I still come here and now bring my new baby boy. I've tried many other services but they all left me disappointed. I'm so glad I have a service I can trust with the care of my baby.
I LOVE THIS MEDICAL CENTRE & THE DOCTORS TOO. If you have been faithful to the clinic then you will be a patient there for life, my first visit in August 2008 was memorable, as Dr Wong immediately arranged for urgent hospitalization, which saved my life and after a 3 month stay at Westmead was happy to get back to say thankyou and have been a patient there ever since. With only three (3) doctors they are certainly limited to a patient list, which apparently from some reviews people just can not understand. If I had the choice I would have given this practice 10 stars :-) :-)
Thought I'd try to get in as I live 200m from this practice but I was informed "they are not taking on any new patients. ". From other reviews this seems to be the case for at least the last 5 years.
So Drew, living 200 metres away where were you going before and why did you want to change? I know that if you are in the area they would TRY to accommodate, but sometimes when other clinics in the same area have closed down and people flocked to Oatlands Family Practice, unfortunately you were just a little too late to transfer, but do not give up, keep trying because it is an old area and maybe someone has allowed a gap to form. Good luck with that and stay healthy.
