I hadn't been to the Palmy surf club in years and recently went on a Saturday to catch up with friends. The renovation is nice but it's pretty bland, there's no memorabilia or surf club imagery on the walls in the dining area, it's very bland.
There's a large gaming area and the usual indoor and outdoor, covered and uncovered seating.
Unfortunately it was a rainy day so we had to sit inside, but the food portions were extremely generous and you certainly didn't come away hungry.
Had a really lovely Sunday lunch here with the girls. The weather was fabulous & we sat at a long table out on the verandah. I ordered a little bottle of bubbles- Yellow Tail moscato ($7.50) and the salt & pepper calamari with tartare sauce, chips & salad. The calamari & chips were really good. The salad was so so.
There was a few specials on order like grilled fish, chicken with mushroom risotto, etc. Most meals are around $25.90 ($1 cheaper if you're a member)
The desserts are really nice & reasonably priced (around $4.90) They have lemon meringue, vanilla cheesecake, baked cheesecake, & lots of other little single portion desserts to order at the coffee bar.
Membership is $10 & if you live within a 15km radius, you are expected to join unless you have a member sign you in.
All in all, a nice surf club, a bit on the expensive side for mains, lovely staff.
We had the misfortune of experiencing this establishments rude staff in October 2013. The food was ok, although ridiculously overpriced. But the real thorn is with the horrible treatment we received when we arrived, right up to the point when they kicked our entire group out because 2 of the guys were wearing singlets. Its a surf club on the beach!!! And the place smelled like stale beer and cigarettes!! Save your cash and go somewhere else. Never going there again!!
We ate here on Roast night and the roast meal was great value and very homely. We sat on the balcony and enjoyed the sound of the waves. Drinks were expensive, small bottle of champagne was $7.50. Other meals were quite expensive, about $25 for garlic prawns. Probably best to order the special of the night.
