Palm Tree Cafe
Palm Tree Cafe on the esplanade..Palm Tree Cafe has been operated by same owners since 1997.
A fairly recent refurbishment and an esplanade location which includes sea views, has resulted in the Palm Tree Cafe being the place to be in Seacliff, which is one of Adelaide's most popular beaches.
With a large menu to offer in the comfort of either Indoor or outdoor dining with ample parking, Palm Tree Cafe should be on your list this coming weekend.

Utterly disgusting service from a rude and surly old grump who clearly didn't want to be there. I ordered, then asked how much the coffee actually was- it seemed expensive- and the aggressive response was "$4.70 what did you think it was". Well there were no prices displayed so I didn't know- it's a lot, but OK (my local cafe is $3.50 for a bigger size). The response was even more aggressive this time- "well I'm not ripping you off what did you think". I cannot believe that 'Rosa' would speak to a customer that way, I told her the rudeness was not appreciated and her reply was 'oh well I'm leaving in two weeks anyway'. Good riddance, to the most disgusting excuse for service I have ever encountered. And the coffee was rubbish too. It's a pity, they could make so much of the location and view, but it's just unpleasant and not worth the prices.
Wow, what a joke! Fish and chips for two...$27!! It was as bland as the greeting we received from the staff working the till. I think they may have used leather jacket fillets and forgotten to remove the jacket, although I have seen bigger fillets on a gold fish! I tried to feed my chips to some seagulls, one started eating it's own faeces so it didn't have to fill up on chips. The best part of the meal was the squeeze packet of tartare sauce, wedge of lemon and the packet of salt, all of which I put in my eye to distract me from the flavor left on my pallet. Never again!
Horribe takeway! Worst fish ever. I ordered 2 fish, 3 dim sims. The fish looked good and was crunchy batter. Looks are deceiving! Oil was pouring out of the bottom. We tried to pat it down with serviettes and they failed to soak it all up. I worked out that the fish must have been precooked to get it crunchy and then reheated in oil not hot enough. (Basic understanding of oil is that it should be 180 degrees, to fry successfully)
I went back to complain the the staff said "I want you to know, I didn't cook it for you" Ha! funny customer service. I requested staff to cook a piece of fish and eat it. I added, "You won't be in business long if you serve food like that".
This place is absolutely fantastic! Especially the cafe side... The lady that works there really knows how to cook and you cannot fault her food at all. The Mediterranean meals in particular are so flavorsome you know that she's doing everything right and puts love into perfecting her meals! The appearance of them are just as exceptional! The young girl that makes the coffee who I would say is no older than 20, really perfects the cup every time. The brand of coffee may be rare but it does not lack in taste! I've been going to the previous fish n chip shop for years and seeing the new development of the business and the penthouses on top of the cafe and take away shop makes the whole complex look modern and fresh. The view is exceptional and the business absolutely booms in summer. The kitchen is open and is always sparkling clean, therefore you know it looks hygienic! I highly recommend this place! Keep up the good work guys!!!
Even before you enter the shop itself you get the feeling that this place has lost it's way with used cutlery and plates littering tables and a newspapers scattered about the place.
Despite the fact there there was only two people before me, it took 15 from the time I ordered to get a small chips and 2 potato cakes. The chips were OK, the potato cakes were dried.
Now I don't expect to much from a fish and chip shop but compared to any others up the road at Brighton, this place needs to lift it's game. The only thing keeping this place going is that there is little/no immediate competition. Do yourself a favour, jump in the car and get your fish and chips from Brighton and then come back, I guarantee that time and food wise you will be better off.
Will I be going back to Seacliff, yes and often, will I be eating from this place, never.
