Peacock Gardens
Matthew Chan's 1975 established 'Peacock Gardens' Chinese restaurant (located in Crows Nest), stirs such an unrelenting loyalty amongst his patrons that he's had much of the same clientele base for decades.
And there's certainly a good reason for it! Famed for being the first to introduce sang choy bow to Australia in the 1970s, Chan and his friendly team of staff continually offer up a tasty and value for money (soups served for under six dollars) selection of traditional and contemporary Chinese foods.

This place has been here a long long time, serving Chinese fare to the people of Sydney, I've know a lot who use it for a special occasion, as it has its own private dining rooms. It's the year of the monkey, so I think I need to celebrate that! The homely welcome and the good insulation mean you won't be shouting at your family or friends. All the favourites you would expect are here, my fave is the Peking duck. No BYO, it's fully licensed , good selection of drinks, and the service of swift and unpretentious.
I've been eating at the Peacock Gardens for many years and the service and food is always excellent. You can't go past the Peaking duck pancakes, the pork ribs and the mustard prawns..... be prepared to clear the sinuses! Many of the staff have worked for Mathew for many years and it's lovely to be greeted by name and with a friendly smile. It's also not unusual to see Mathew at the restaurant regularly greeting his diners. We've often taken our children there too and they are always welcome and looked after with special chopsticks and treats. They also have an extensive wine list and nothing is too much trouble.
