This place is always reliable and always has people coming in and out all the time. The food comes out quickly and customer service is good. The food is quite cheap so grab your friends and go have a feast there. When you walk in - it seems very quiet but once you walk downstairs you will be surprised at how busy it is. I highly recommend the Char Kway Teow and the Chicken rice.
It had almost been a year since I last visited Petaling at Haymarket before I revisited this shop for an afternoon lunch with a friend The shop did not seem to have changed. The small-spaced street-level dining area and equally cramped basement seats with no natural light and mobile reception were still as is.
One thing that has changed from this place was the menu. What used to be a proper book menu has now been transformed into a one large laminated paper menu and appeared to have less offerings as well less flexible menu as to what you can customise within this already slightly less range of dishes.
The food still comes quite quickly, which I always appreciate from this shop, although the serving size appears to have gone slightly smaller than what I used to know. The quality appeared to be the same. The servers, as usual, can sometimes be friendly but not as attentive.
I've been to this place several times, and never disappoints. Every time I bring a different group of guests, and they all love the food - albeit I do come out quite thirsty, so not sure if it's the hot sambal or MSG? Nevertheless the dishes that I always order are: Hainan steam chicken, Nasi Pattaya, Sambal Kangkong, coconut rice and the Teh Tarik (iced Malaysian milk tea). My mouth waters just writing this review!
Oh I used to go to Mamak and line up for up to an hour for Malaysian food in the city, but after discovering this place - Mamak no more. Put this place down on your diary.
Petaling Street at Haymarket has lately become our new go-to favourite for late-night supper meals (although they do not open as late as Chat Thai or Super Bowl).
The restaurant is pretty narrow with only limited seats visible from the outside, but there are plenty more tables downstairs. The area is not too spacious especially for large groups, but they are not too cramped either.
The food offering is very extensive. Just look at the menu and you will be spoilt for choice, if not confused. If you happen to be undecided, there are some pictures of the items on the walls that can help you.
Our regular order usually includes the Hainan chicken rice, the char kway teow, and the nasi lemak. Then for drinks / desserts, I would recommend trying out Michael Jackson drink it is not as fancy as the name suggests, but will definitely cleanse your palate after an awesome meal.
