I get the feeling that this place may have been around much longer than I have, and is basically one of those staples of Scarborough Beach (and in fact many Australian beach side suburbs). Okay, while I didn't go for the standard fish and chips (what was I thinking), I did end up grabbing a Yiros, which I have to admit wasn't at all bad. Mind you, they did actually get their orders mixed up, and I ended up with my brother's and my brother with mine. However, that was sorted pretty quickly. Maybe, if I am ever back down this way, I should try for some fish and chips. While I wouldn't say that it is highly recommended, it is still a tradition of the beach.
$25 for some deep fried hake(not even local fish) , fried chips , and salad. Way overpriced. Oldest restaurant in scarborough but they now charging absolutely exorbitant prices. Kebab prices are still reasonable. Frappes and drinks are good. Been coming here for 2 decades and price of fish and chips is now ridiculous. $10 for some chips in a small box. I would look at buying fish and chips with local fish and just take it down to the beach yourself and enjoy the sunset :)
The food is good. The music is usually way too loud, you go there for a meal, not a disco.
Went there last Thursday afternoon on a georgeous sunny afternoon. Staff at counter didn't seem to be happy and the staff raised the volume of a very ordinary song so much a mature age couple eating ice creams got up in disgust and left.
Food was quite okay, won't be going back for some time though. Need to find another place worth going to.
The food is fresh due to high turnover. That is the ONLY plus for this place. Don't even bother with the hamburges as they are sausage meat patties instead of beef mince. The chips are revoltingly soggy with oil as they are cooked at too lower temperature. Who makes a works anything and leaves out most of the necessities? I mean when is bacon, egg or beetroot extras in a works burger? Or tabouli or homus extra on a kebab? They are all available but at an extra price that makes a decent works burger around $10. Generally the food is over priced and dissappointing!
I go there often and it's October 2010 and I can say that it's worth a visit at the least...... I fibd the food in general is well priced.
