Pilu At Freshwater
Moore Rd
Freshwater, NSW, 2096
The best way I can think of to describe the delightful Pilu would have to be fine-dining meets your favourite comfort foods. Located just off the tranquil Freshwater beach, Pilu restaurant is inside a white wooden luxury beach house with floor to ceiling windows that frame the beach view perfectly. The whole interior is very open, white and fresh but is also made to feel very intimate and cosy. The staff were awesome and ready to offer their expertise. All of the food was to die for but the two standout courses for me were my main and dessert. For main course I ordered the potato, mint and pecorino ravioli in a burnt butter and sage sauce. It was seriously good and all I want is some more immediately. The ravioli was very delicate, perfectly cooked and so tasty. For dessert I ordered the cheeses and after struggling to choose for about 10 minutes I was recommended the prosecco cheese, truffle cheese and a soft cheese all three of which were the best cheeses I've ever ...read more
We had dinner here on a Tuesday night and so the restaurant was very quiet. Which also meant the service was overly attentive. We were seated next to a service area which Aldo made us feel like we were overheard by staff if they lingered too long. The staff however were all very friendly and knowledgeable on the food. The wine selection is excellent with a wife variety of prices.
Worst dinning experience in years. We eat out many times a month and we were looking forward to this restaurant as people had said good things. Its location is special but that is where the good experience stops. There is no regard for the dinner on any level Im amazed if they have any return clientelle
We went along with high hopes, having taken the recommendation from the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2010 which gave the restaurant a two hat rating.
The restaurant has a great location and the staff were very welcoming. The menus were explained well. However the food did not live up the expectations and was quite frankly a disaster. The dishes were bland and very oversalted. The signature dish, the roasted suckling pig was dry and 60% bone ($43). The knife struggled to cut through it (surprising since it had supposedly been roasted for several hours). The crackling was soft and impossible to cut. After the dismal main course we cut our losses and left. It certainly didnt deliver value for money. We will not be returning to the restaurant nor will we be recommending it to our friends.
