I love this spot's confident Southern Italian focus, with dishes like Sardinian Fregola ($27/$35) resplendent with perfectly cooked cuttlefish, calamari, prawns and mussels, and topped with a generous helping of bottarga. In recent times desserts have really improved here too, like the spherical Coconut Panna Cotta ($17) which is a showstopper, cracked open tableside to reveal hidden mango purée.

The food is delicious and fresh and the customer service was impeccable. The ambience is slick filled with affluent locals. I highly recommend all the pastas and desserts.

Popolo had been on my 'to try' list for longer than I can remember. Finally I got down there on a double date a few weeks ago. Parking was easy enough, on the stree on the other end of the walkway. We sat outside, which was lovely and enjoyed a bottle of Shiraz ($63). We ordered a gnochi, 2 pastas and a spatchcock. All were very good but the portion sizes of the pastas/gnochi were smaller than appreciated (especially considering the price).

An nice night though and friendly waitstaff.
A kid friendly restaurant as well.

Popolo is a very welcome addition to the Rushcutters Bay area. A wonderful little Italian joint, unpretentious, just serving great authentic Italian food matched with amazing Italian wines. The design is very simple and elegant, dark interiors, and not trying too hard like so many places as of late. We shared a mozzarella, tomato and basil salad which the cheese just oozed delicious goodness from, and some wood fired prawns which were so unbelievably tasty. We also shared some pizza bread which was delicious as well, very light and thin. For mains I had a white rabbit ragu which was devine. Others had the slow cooked lamb which was so good they wouldn't share, and a hare ragu which was the special and equally amazing. We shared a bottle of Italian red which came in very large wine glasses and was very nice. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate almond torte which was simple and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The service was great as well with our Italian ...read more
