On the 22.07.17 we went on the Puffing Billy Dinner/Dance Train to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The whole experience has been totally amazing from the booking right through to the final disembarking of the train. Nothing was too much trouble for Angie who was co-ordinating the evening, she was so friendly and certainly helped to make the evening a success for us. The food was really good, hot and plentiful. Our friends are still talking about the fantastic evening which is a credit to the Puffing Billy staff. Thanks again for making the night a memorable one. Michele

This is the most fun activity in Melbourne! We are looking forward to also taking the dinner train later this year. So much fun! Thankyou

Fantastic activity for families! It showcases the beautiful Dandenong ranges in an 'old school' styled train taking you to another era. There are plenty of places to stop and have morning tea/lunch. Fun for the whole family! #reviewtowin

This steam train is a really good activity for families, school holidays and visitors to Melbourne. In the lovely Dandenong Ranges, the train route runs through lush bush and the authentic carriages take you back to another era. It's a very popular attraction and most enjoyable. No matter what your age, you'll find something to enjoy about "Puffing Billy". It runs all year round and only takes an hour or so to complete its journey. You can do it as part of a whole day visit to the Dandenongs - there's plenty of places to find to have morning tea, afternoon tea or lunch. It's fun!.

Adults will find it quite boring, in my opinion. I went once as a young adult, and then 10 years later as a parent (mainly for my child who adores trains). Children under the age of 4 are luckily admitted for free, so take advantage of that as the tickets are quite pricey!
The views are nice, but after 15-20mins you get the hang of it, so my advice is just go to the first main stop (Menzies Creek), esp if you are with young kids.
We ended up going till Lakeside, which felt like forever to get to and then back when you're with an active toddler.
