It is an ideal stop off point when travelling to either the snow or the sea both of which are with a few hours? drive. While in town why not venture down The Rail Trail white stone paths meander along, perfect for a ride either on bike or horseback. Take a detour down the Lions clubs International Path soaking in the migration history, past the skate park and resting in the Apex Park Playground. A visit to Lake Glenmaggie where you can enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, sailing, and water-skiing is well worth the 5 minute drive.
The Gippsland regions rich soil is ideal for the seven local wineries. A visit to any one of their cellar doors is bound to be a treat. Local farmers markets are essential for field fresh produce and while there bring back memories with some local homemade jams and chutneys like grandma used to make.

We recently stayed a night at the Railway Hotel in Heyfield. It is under new management and the accommodation is very new. The room was a good size and had everything we needed in it, the beds were very comfortable and we quite enjoyed our stay. We would recommend staying at the Railway Hotel.
