I loved my experience here. We came to watch a musical and arrived right on 8pm. Your usually not allowed in once the show starts but they were kind enough to let us in and seated us at the back which was where I had booked my seats anyway. All the staff were so helpful and understanding as my mum had a bad hip so couldn't walk very fast. They were patient and friendly.
The thing about theatres is that I only go into one when there is something on that I want to see, and if it is showing at a specific theatre then I am unlikely not to go and see it because it is at that theatre. Still, as theatres go (and I have been to a few, though not a huge number) the Regent is still pretty good. Mind you I've only been there three times, once to see Cats and twice to see Wicked. I'm not a huge fan of musicals so I tend to only go when there is something on that I quite like, or want ot see. Still this is a grand old theatre, and it does get pretty crowded when there is a show on, and waiting to get something from the bar during intermission can be a little time consuming, unless you time yourself right. Also, like Her Majesties, they don't have an outdoor area, and I don't think you can take drinks outside either. Still, if I show in on here that I want to see then I'm not going to complain.
One of the most stunning buildings in all of Melbourne, and to think that Jeff Kennett wanted to pull it down but was prevented from doing so by unionists. This building has class and is in as category of its own, with architectural brilliance that leaves modern buildings looking like cold card board boxes in comparison. And the stage is simply perfect for great stage productions.
The Regent theatre, one of Melbourne most prized theatre and landmark! I was recently here a few weekends ago to see The Lion King performance. Having been here in many occasions for other shows, its a relatively well maintained theatre in keeping to its 1929 glory of its days. Believe it holds little over 200- seats. There is a grand entrance which leads into the doors where the theatre is held. Incredible show I recently saw which only made the experience much more enjoyable. Its based in the heart of Melbourne on Collins street with nearby restaurants/caf and other landmark that could easily be assessable if youre new to Melbourne and looking for other activities and places of interest. I was reading some interesting articles that it has survived numerous foods, abandonment, threats for demolition in its days however has survived to become one of Melbournes iconic landmark! A definite treasure for Melbournians!
