What is online counselling?

Online counselling is counselling via the Internet. At Relationships Australia NSW, we offer two types of online counselling: you can choose our "chat" service, or you can choose Skype (video). Chat is a secure area where you chat with a client by texting back and forth in real-time.

If you live in a rural or remote area, have carer responsibilities or disabilities, live overseas, or simply want the convenience or anonymity of online counselling, this service may be for you.

To use online counselling services you need access to a computer or a tablet or a smart phone (for Skype) and have access to the Internet. You may incur phone or data costs.

Is this service right for me?

This service is available for individual counselling only. It is best to use face to face counselling for couple and family issues.

It is best if you are comfortable with technology and have a reasonable typing speed.

Who will I "chat" to?

All counsellors are Relationships Australia staff. Our online counsellors have qualifications and experience in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling. The majority have also undertaken specialist post-graduate training in working with different types of couples and families. Their qualifications exceed the approval requirements of the Commonwealth Attorney General?s Department. Professional supervision and on-going training are provided to all counsellors to ensure a high quality of service. Our online counsellors also get special training in online counselling and receive ongoing supervision.

What will it cost?

There is an AUD$90 flat-rate per one hour session of online counselling. You need to have a credit card to pay for this service through our secure payment gateway.
