First time at Ricky's Chicken Rice in the market rather than in Souther Cross Arcade. I opted for the steamed chicken with noodles in soup. It was a generous bowl of chicken and noodles in a clear chicken broth. The chicken was really moist. Lucky you get the chicken rice sauces to pour over the top. The other dishes coming out looked equally as good.
I'd heard all about Ricky's kitchen when he was located in the markets and when I'd heard that he'd moved I was keen to try. Ricky specialises in duck, chicken and pork. We tried two duck dishes and a pork dish. Whilst all were good our favourite was the fragrant duck with noodles and soup - i can see myself popping out for this regularly.
Don't be fooled by the unassuming shopfront in the always ridiculously busy Chinatown food arcade - you'll get one of the tastiest and cheapest Chinese meals at this place. They have lots of things on the menu from noodles to soups, but the Hainan chicken rice is the only dish I have eyes for - a plate of succulent steamed or fried chicken pieces on a bed of chicken rice (rice cooked in chicken stock and spices), served with two spicy sauces and a bowl of clear chicken broth. And all for about $8. Both versions are delicious, but the steamed version is more traditional (and more healthy!). Simply divine, not to be missed! Don't be put off by the crowded eating hall, you really won't regret this meal. (A tip: if you don't like meat on the bone, you can specify "breat meat only" when you order - it's not on the official menu but you can ask for it anyway)
