This is the first negative review I have done but Rock Salt at Brighton was a disgrace. Two of us had Lamb Shanks and they were a joke, tough, small with a sauce that looked much like a can of Campbells vegie soup poured over it. I would quit cooking if I could not do better than this in my own home!!! The management is rude. I know the diners at our table were all very disappointed and will never return.
I often get takeaway coffee from here, it's usually pretty good and service is speedy.
But I have often wondered why it is not busy Sat or Sun mornings at peak breakfast times?
I had breakfast there recently and found out. The sour dough toast was so tough I couldn't cut it. The my poached eggs were hard as rocks and my bacon and mushrooms had been microwaved. Now there is just no excuse in my opinion for microwaving bacon etc when there is a full kitchen available to cook food properly. Such a shame really as I really like this cafe, it's in a good location and very spaciou
returned here again after 9 months (when in the area) and have a lovely meal again. tried the seafood spagetti ($24) again which was delicous - seafood (scallops, calamari, prawns and salmon) cooked just right (scallops not soaked in milk). also tried the moroccan sweet potato and lentel soup ($10) which was also great. coffees superb. cake display looked appealing too ("orange and pistachio creme brulee cake , lemon tart, lemon/lime/pear tart, muffins). staff very welcoming and friendly including with young children. open sunday nights. prices reasonable. at first glance looks like one of those larger restaurants that can have average food, but in reality compares with one of the smaller type cafes with modern, fresh quality ingredients and meals. will return again when in area (wish we lived a bit closer)
