We have been coming here for a years now and slowly the qualty of food has been getting worse. The menu is very average and uninspiring when compared with the competition at the sheaf double bay or watson bay hotel. The fish and chips i had was horrible . its poor qualty frozen fish and lacks any taste except for that gluggy batter. My wife had the TB steak and it was tough as shoe leather and had no fillet on one side at all. the safest bet is to order a burger as they seem to get that right on most occassions. the kitchen is visible from the dining room and looks filthy. Also the toilets are poorly maintained . My wife says the female toilets are disgusting and missing locks and broken toilet paper dispensers. The mens are similar and in need of a major upgrade. ...read more
When the sun came out we just had to get out of the house. Found ourselves walking around Rose Bay foreshore and trying to dodge all the dogs there when we felt like trying the pub for a lunch feed. It was a Sunday so it was $15 burgers all day. I had the grilled chicken burger which was fresh and standard for pub fare. A big portion and side of chips was worth the $15. I paired it up with the sweet potato salad - delicious. Probably a little expensive at $16 but it was very tasty. The other burger was the vego mushroom option which was good as well. A nice space with plenty of natural light and a positive vibe. Worth heading in Monday to Thursday and Sunday for their $15 meal specials.
We have been going for dinner to the Rose Bay Hotel for many years and it used to always be a good experience. Not like tonight at 6.45, when we arrived and the entire dining section had a "Reserved" sign on every table, even though the place was completely empty. We could not believe it. The staff were totally disinterested and told us that there was a "Trivia night" and that was why the place was booked out and not available for dinner. I cannot believe that any pub would book out the entire dining room for a Trivia night - then why not just put a notice on the web site and say that the dining room is closed onTuesdays - save people driving, parking, coming in - and be turned away. It is a total lack of common sense, as well as a poor management - to book a dining room for Trivita night! The staff offered no alternative, just stood there, shrugging their shoulders and let us walk away. Be it as it may, we certainly will not be ever back ever again, after many ...read more
I have been coming for years for the Tuesday night trivia. Jason was the best host. The trivia is great fun - watch out for the group down the back with their iPhones out all night! ;-)
The pub itself is a bit of an 'old man' pub with a simple pub food menu that is cooked terribly. Don't ever order their calamari! In the end, the only thing I felt ok ordering was the chips - not much of a meal but generally felt a bit gross after eating anything else. The train that runs along the wall is cute and quirky and drinks are reasonably priced.
Clean and well present pub, mainly for an older crowd.
The menu is decent but quite highly priced for pub food and the quality of food is mediocre.
On Tuesday nights, the pub trivia is very popular.
You order meals at the counter and they're brought to the table (no need to receive a buzzer and get up to collect your food).
Ample parking is around the corner in outdoor carparks.
