Once a horse track for the local gentry, the ‘Tan’, as Melburnians affectionately love to call it, is the 3.8km running track around the perimeter of the Botanic Gardens frequented by professional athletes, AFL footballers, fitness fanatics and those guilty of overindulgence trying to make amends. 'The Tan' is my little piece of fresh air in the bustling city. Circling the Royal Botanic Gardens, it's a perfect place to exercise and meet friends. A great running track measuring about 3.8kms around. Anderson Street hill is a killer but well worth it - great to see so many Melburnians out and about pacing this track.
Melbourne is a lot of things to a lot of people but everyone agrees that the Royal Botanical Gardens are superb. The majesty of all that greenery makes you forget the traffic, the noise and the urban sprawl. There is surely magic in those huge oak trees and the many gently-sloping laneways that beckon. This is perhaps the most beautiful part of our colonial past and yet there are lot of new developments afoot. The desert area is colourful and lovely. Not to be missed!
Our family loves Botanical Gardens! We live just a short drive away so it's our top spot for a family day out where kids can run around and we can have picnics and relax and enjoy the greenery around us. You forget there is a buzzing city right next to it!
We recently organized our family photo session there and we are attending a wedding in October here as well so these Gardens are perfect for lots of occasions not just a lazy Sunday stroll. I would recommend it to anyone who likes greenery and nature and some peace and quiet.
