Came as a guest. I unfortunately couldn't see the upstairs area (not open on a weekday daytime) but from photos I've seen it looks pretty nice.
I tried a assortment of dishes, the fish taco is packed and the scallops are huge with sum seaweed on them which is a good move. Impressed by the chicken burger, don't let the size deceive you. It's really packed and dense and filling! We were most impressed with the barramundi, the salty taste and the veges in it are a winner! Had nil issues with service and plenty of TVs around to watch whatever sports are on
Expansive pub with plenty of room (and rooms) to drink, watch sports, listen to music and socialise. A big bar menu with starters, mains and more. I got the chicken tacos. Flat bread with crispy chicken, corn, cabbage and chipotle. Nice food. The bar girl needs to be a lot less grumpy. Came across as rude.
I know you wouldn't usually come to the Oak for a salad, but it's on the menu so it deserves to be reviewed! I ordered the lamb salad today which wasn't great. The lamb itself was quite fatty and borderline raw. The dressing was okay but it had way too much vinegar. The rest of the salad was 90% leaves/rocket with just a touch of grated carrot and chickpeas. The lady who served me was lovely, but the food was just disappointing. I may come back to try more standard pub food with a glass of cider, but definitely not another salad.
This place really surprised me considering it's location. In a suburb like Double Bay I was expecting the pubs to be incredibly fancy and high class, however this was nothing like it. In fact it was pretty much like a ordinary pub, only a little nicer than normal. It has a pretty cool beer garden out the back (which is unfortunately for the smokers, or at least part of it is) and the staff are really friendly, which is another great thing about the place (because I have found that some staff in high class pubs can be really standoffish if you don't fit a certain mould – which I don't). I really have to say that I quite liked this place and if I happened to be back in the Double Bay area I would definitely check it out again. Oh, and it's not far from the ferry terminal either, so it is fairly accessible.
Gorgeous Pub located in Double Bay is situated on a busy corner that has a strong local crowd following. Downstairs has original features but once you go step upstairs be prepared to be surrounded by the cool kids and a gorgeous rooftop area. The menu has lots of favourite bistro items so will suit many tastes. As its Lunar New Year I visited to try out the special menu and it was amazing. They often have special events here.
