Rustic fresh produce driven ItalianA newly created venue offering a versatile space for casual dining and social gatherings. Talented chefs creating rustic produce driven Italian food with a wicked wine and cocktail list.
Join the queue, cross your fingers and hope you are lucky enough to score a pew at this immensely popular venue. With a vibrant bar atmosphere, it can be more club than dining venue at times but the solid Italian fare pumping out from the kitchen is enough to make you stick it out. David McLean, former head chef from the Stokehouse, is the man to thank for dishes such as pork shoulder – tender meat covered in crackling and packed with fennel, rosemary and garlic stuffing – best enjoyed with boutique beer or wine by the ...read more

The question arises as to whether I have been here before or not. It is somewhat familiar, but in another sense, I’m sure I haven’t seen it before, or that was at least the feeling when I looked up while on the tram and saw this place. So, when I was heading back, I decided to jump off the tram and check it out. Well, as a pub it was actually pretty cool, particularly the courtyard out the back, and they also had some nice beers on tap as well. Sure, it comes across as being a bit fancy, but still, it was quite a nice pub.
My husband and I came here with friends in April on a Sunday. My summary:
- Design is awesome. Open plan with lots of greenery.
- Great location.
- Staff were friendly and put up with our noisy table, always making sure our glasses we full :)
- Great menu for sharing, however the squid portion was tiny.
- Pizzas were delicious, dough was thin, crisp and homemade.
- Cocktails were OK, but they could be a bit more inventive like Gin, Lemon, Earl Grey etc.
This is a venue were you can definitely feel the soul of Melbourne. A DJ on a Sunday would be a good idea too.

Definitely an upmarket place to be seen and to people-watch, the food is actually excellent This is not your typical pub in any way. It's an elegant, spacious venue for festive times, filled with beautiful people. Come dressed for the part and you will fit right in.
Hey Starwoman!

I'm not really much of a pub goer but I wouldn't really describe the Royal Saxon as your average pub. Boasting a fairly plush interior it's more of a restaurant bar featuring an outdoor eating area as well as ample space inside. Spread across two exceptionally large areas, there's plenty of room to explore. The upstairs bar is great for kicking back to some cool tunes while downstairs is the place to be for socialising. There's also a fairly large courtyard out the back if the weather is nice. The crowd is always well-dressed and the vibe is modern. A great place to go for dinner or drinks with friends. The only problem with this place is that it shuts at 11pm and given the location it's always difficult to decide where next to go!
