Sandringham Hotel
The Sandringham Hotel is better known as the “Sando”. It is one of the most popular venues in Newtown to watch live entertainment. Since refurbishments, there have been better lounge areas and courtyard area drawing in more people to enjoy drinks and their bar food.

I enjoy stopping by the Sando whenever I'm in Newtown.
The drinks are reasonably priced and the frozen Sex and the City cocktail is to die for!!
Upstairs is a cute little venue for bands to play and the sound isn't too shabby.
I miss having goth trivia there since they moved it.
Back in the day I spent many a night watching bands in this suitably seedy bar. It's undergone a facelift and isn't quite what I remember from 10 years ago (actually nothing is but that's another story).
They have a new band room upstairs now and it's a great space. Excellent sound with plenty of room. Looks like I'll be visiting more often now.
I know the Sando is almost proud of its pub rock basic image. But seriously, I reckon its just a dive. I went there to watch a muso friend play in the upstairs bar. It was a stinking hot day and the airconditioning was thankfully on as there are no windows or natural ventilation in the room. Water was dripping out of a dirty airconditioner onto the carpet which presumably explained the overwhelming dank stink that you could even smell from downstairs. Everything I touched seemed sticky and grimy. I will say the acoustics were good, but I won't be back.
