I'm a parent of a new girl in Year 7, definitely not part of any supposed PR campaign and I'm truly thrilled with the school. The academic standards, pastoral care and culture are wonderful. We chose SCEGGS for a number of reasons. First, it has a fantastic leader - Jenny Allum, who's been there for almost 18 years I think and still going strong. She's inspired, inspiring, has a mind like a steel trap and knows every single one of the girls in the secondary school as she makes a point of teaching them all for a few maths lessons. In the short time I've been involved with the school, I've spoken to various parents with girls in other years who have had long-term associations with the school - with not only daughters attending, but perhaps have also attended themselves, and/or had cousins who attended. I've been struck by the overwhelming positivity and satisfaction, which is in direct contrast with the general sentiments surrounding the North Shore private school I ...read more
I attended SCEGGS from years 1 to 4 and then from years 11 to 12. Prior to attending in years 11 and 12, I was enrolled at a private school in Perth, Western Australia. That particular school told my parents that I would not go to University and should do non TEE subjects (probably because they didn't want my grades to pull the school average down). On my first day at SCEGGS, I was told that everyone did the HSC and I should pick subjects I enjoyed. I was extremely nervous in this regard, as I had been conditioned to believe that I would fail, even if I tried. ...read more
I am astounded by the poor reviews. My two daughters are thriving at this school. Apart from the excellent academic standards, the care for the girls is demonstrable, highlighted by the awareness and care when my father (the girls' grandfather died)...sensitively handled without being overbearing. Yes, the fees are a lot of money but I don't begrudge my daughters this for a second.
5/5? What was that review? SCEGGS guerilla PR team attempting to offset the damage done to their prestigious reputation by three 0.5/5 reviews and a lot of truth? I would hardly call staff at SCEGGS enthusiastic or knowledgeable, and the latter is honestly just a bit laughable. Some teachers do not know basic details about what they are teaching. As a teacher the job demands that you know everything about the subject material you are teaching and SCEGGS teachers sometimes do not. What does happen a lot is that they throw about the weight of their authority, even with simple matters that are not even related to subject matter they are teaching i.e. don't sit like that, -everyone- has to sit uniformly. There is bias amongst the staff towards their students, and talented students are suffering as a result. For a school so expensive the facilities are also inadequate, and it is true that if you compare staff facilities to students, the staff seem to be far better looked after. ...read more
well thats awkward... SCEGGS is a great school and its nurturing environment is reflected in its highly regarded atar ranks and hsc scores
Hmmm. Perhaps you could elaborate more? Specifically describe the incidences that contain the supposed 'lack of enthusiasm or knowledge'? You seem very disgruntled and my direct and indirect experiences don't resemble yours in any way whatsoever.
