Sea Pen

This product is a disappointing white elephant. I have had a seapen for three years to store a 8.5m catamaran. It cost over $21,000, installed.

To start with the plastic welder did a terrible job and one of the members has leaked air from day #1. The pen kept sinking. Requests for a warranty repair consisted of a technician sikkaflexing the leak up - which lasted until the he cracked his first beer later that afternoon. Other problems consisted of the failure of one of the pump motors (not covered by warranty) and leaks in the skin. Well my new Bayliner 265 has been in my 6 year old Sea Pen for a few years now and things aren't all as smooth as Sea Pen would like you to believe. Firstly, the Sea Pen is now leaking due to them damaging the skin on delivery and performing a repair using a cut up plastic spatula and screws with washers to plug up lots of holes. It's now out of warranty and they don't want to know me. The pump runs every 20 mins due to the leaks becoming enlarged and the water sensor has fouled a number of times requiring constant maintenance. Secondly, my mechanic now tells me the hull of my boat underneath has developed blisters due to the temp difference between the hot rope (sitting in the sun) and cold skin (from the water). This damage is irreparable! Not much I can do now.
