This is one of my all time favourite outdoor venues. It's been around for years but it is still a classic. It is located in Tattersalls lane and decked out with urban industrial funky decor. The staff are very indie and they make great cocktails here too. The wine and beer selection is very nice. Easy to find and central locaiton makes it a great hangout spot or post-dumplings venue after you visit Shanghai Village for a fun uni night out.
Classic Melbourne bar set up out of an old shipping container - looks more and more like a regular bar these days (espeicaly when hidden by the raging crowds) but crate seats and wooden benches keep the fun vibe there. Gets lively and busy but still a fun place and especially worth bringing out of towners to.
Since this bar appears in the Lonely Planet Guide unfortunately is not a place to come for a quiet drink since it is always crowded (unless you come here in the middle of the day, and even then there will be people here). However it is quite unique with the bar being an old shipping container, the seats being made from old wooden crates, and is hidden away in a back alley. However, despite that everybody knows about this place because there is rarely ever a place to sit (though occasionally I have found some a spare piece of wood). They don't have beer on tap, but then the prices aren't that bad, and at night they have DJs playing. Despite its popularity, it is certainly a place to visit at least once because this place pretty much defines the Melbourne bar scene. As for me, well, despite the crowds, I still love this bar and pop in every so often for a not so quiet drink.
Great Laneway bar. I wouldn't say it is the easiest to find but for some reason every time I am in Melbourne I seem to stumble across it. The bar is made out of old containers and wooden pallets. It is quite hipster great place to meet friends day or night. No drinks on tap all bottled beer and cocktails.
