This place is a Sydney institution and is run by Daniele, the maitre de and owner, who is entertaining, welcoming and a fabulous ambassador for authentic French cuisine. It is the only place to go for steak tartare and makes the best French fries I'e eaten in the world. Great wines and the most irresistible French accents make a meal charming and amusing. Darlinghurst's jewel always satisfies every tastebud in my body!
We went to Sel et Poivre on Friday the 15th and were really disappointed with the food. For the price you expect quality but it fell WAY short of our expectations.
We had the oven baked chicken breast, it was dry and tough from over cooking. The sauce was like mayo with capers and gerkin through it ..... not appealing at all ! While the service was OK, we didn't stay for desert and probably won't be back !
Was recommended to this place by a friend and it delivered. My fav dishes are the duck confit and the lamb shanks (believe these are the specials and not on the main menu). The wines there are also good. Did i also mention that the waitresses are all french, which really does add to the atmosphere.
