These are planted down to masses of rhododendrons, camellias, roses and other flowering plants interspaced with a large variety of exotic trees giving exquisite autumn colouring. Multitudes of bird life, from small wrens to parrots are abundant, walk the tracks and see lyre birds, wallabies and other native animals. Sit on the deck of your cottage and listen to the river, the birds and look out on the magnificent ever changing views of the ranges reaching up to Mt Feather top. Or at night relax in the spa or snuggle up to the wood fire. Air conditioning is provided for relatively mild summers. From Shady Brook you can walk to the local shops, restaurants, eateries and hotels in Harrietville. There is fishing, bike riding, canoeing, short to full day walks. Only 45 minutes to Mt Hotham, in winter the skiers paradise take your car or catch the bus or in summer enjoy the alpine wilderness, trails and wildflowers. By car its 20 minute to Bright with some of the best restaurants in Victoria or do the wine and gourmet food trail, visit historical Beechworth or Omeo, all easy one day excursions. Or visit the ladies baths on Mt Buffalo National Park, walk the unique alpine tracks through snow plains or take in the magnificent mountain views.
