Sharp Powder Coating

I had the misfortune of using Sharps Powder Coating to powder coat some simple car components. I made the mistake of not requesting a quotation, relying on past experience at other powder coating businesses as a gauge of the expected price.

The parts powder coated were as follows:
1. Two only Cam Shaft covers
2. Four only Inlet manifolds
3. One only battery bracket
4. A small number of small brackets

The charge for having the above parts powder coated was $600.00 plus GST. I subsequently gained a quotation for the same work on the same parts at two other companies specializing in powder coating. One quoted $165.00, the other $180.00. These prices were both consistent with costs Id incurred at other powder coating businesses for similar work.

Not only was the cost totally unreasonable, the quality of work was poor, with the coating having come away with the masking, leaving bare metal spots.
