Went to Shauna Downs Butchery based on the below reviews as I'm new in town and looking for a good quality butcher. The meat was probably the worst I've ever had, even from cheap markets. The steak that we paid $20 a kilo for (and it was only this cheap if you bought over a kilo) had so much fat that you'd eat three steaks and get an entire steak's worth of fat left behind. The 500g beef mince that we bought and grilled on a foreman grill left over 1/3 cup of fat in the catcher and still had enough in them to make the buns soggy to the point where a pool of fat was on the plate when you lifted up the burger. The butterflied or doubled chicken breasts that were supposed to be skinless/boneless had huge chunks of fat on the undersection and when I went to cook it, had to cut half the breast bone out of the center. To make matters worse, the fellow who helped us insisted we couldn't possible like our steaks well done and proceeded to tell us how to "properly" cook a steak.
I have been using this butchers for years - as long as I can remember. The staff are fantastic, and the meat is superb. While sometimes they are more expensive than the large supermarkets - it is well worth it as the quality is so high! This business is well known in the neighbourhood for the quality of product and service.
