On 16 January 2018 I took a pair of motorcycle wheels to this business to have a tyre changed from one rim to the other. I was told it would be about $10 to $15 (so I put $20 aside). Left the job there and came back the next day to a $69 charge, apparently because there was a big lump of rust in the receiving wheel. They had my phone number but just went ahead with the unauthorised repair of the wheel without so much as the courtesy of ringing to say there was a problem. When I complained about the excessive cost and non contact, the fellow said that I did not tell them to ring me. He did the unauthorised repair (obviously charging between $54 and $59 for it, over and above his original estimate.) I rang a local bike wrecker and was quoted $35 for a replacment rim in guaranteed good, no rust condition. If you are looking to get any work done there, make sure you don't assume you will be contacted if there is any other issue regarding your requirements or ...read more
dear derik or mr chips when you first came in you ask how much it was to swap a tyre over you were quoted $15 to $20. When you came back you bought in 2 rims just not a rim and a tyre. You also asked for it to be tubeless which means no tube so there is a cost for valve stem $11. When the tyre on the steel rim was removed it was very rusty we could not fit a tubless tyre to that rim in that state so we sand blasted the rim and painted it at a cost of $14. There was 45mins labour which should of cost you $66 but we only charged you $44. You never ask to be contacted if there was a problem.

if you got the other rim you still would have to pay $11 for valve stem and $15 - $20 to fit so it would still cost $66
Further to the comments about the costs if I had obtained a new rim. I have my OWN facilities to sandblast and recoat the original rim, including baking it if necessary. I consider there is NO excuse for any repairier to go ahead with unauthorised repairs without first contacting the customer.
