The previous comments should be for Shelly's On the Beach. The Shelly Beach cafe doesn't have a view of the beach, the staff are friendly & attentive, food very nice & reasonably priced. Shelly's On the Beach is now closed but Shelly Beach Cafe is very much alive & well! Please don't take the other reviews into account as Shelly Beach Cafe is lovely & does not deserve those negative comments. They are also dog friendly for those of you who like taking your four-legged mates along.
The service was atrocious, the food ordinary and unreasonably priced. The staff, although busy, were patronising and unapologetically slow and rude. We waited for 20 minutes before anyone even spoke to us. My poached eggs, which were overcooked, were garnished with oranges (?!) and the fruit salad was over $15.00. This was all after a near hour wait after ordering. Overall, an unpleasant experience and not worth the 5km walk we took to get there. This is unfortunate because it's in a gorgeous spot and has potential.
I hear what you are saying but you have been to Shelly's On the Beach. This is a different cafe. Shelly Beach Cafe is on Shelly Beach Rd & has no view of the beach, the staff are brilliant & the food lovely & not over-priced. What you describe is correct but for a different cafe, which I am happy to say, is now closed.
Pricey, I guess because of location and view...yet service with no smile.
Coffee was served in smaller than average cups. Water glasses looked really old and not clean.
The toast I got with eggs was cold and soggy. There were 4 of us, three got he food and we had to wait about 10 minutes for the fourth plate to arrive. Don't you hate when that happens?
...and did I mention that prices were higher than elsewhere?
