I was excited to find a salon near my home but was VERY disappointed with the service and the end result.
I had highlights and a cut. The 'half head' I asked for was actually just a couple of foils on both sides and few on top - it was more like a T section (with very few foils). The colour started half an inch of the root of the hair so immediately after the appointment it looked like I had growth. I also bought a spray, which I ended up throwing away as it seemed it was a very old product with broken nozzle, and didn't do what it promised to my hair. I will never go back, and I'm in a search for a better local hairdresser.
Very disappointed in my experience here. Let me say the staff was exceptionally friendly, but I was not happy with the service I received. I called specifically to ask if they used the keratin straightening treatment brand I have used before at other salons and had success with. When I made the appointment, they confirmed yes, they used that product. When I arrived at the salon, I was informed they have not been able to use that product for some months now (reasons out of their control), and they were going to use a new one for the straightening treatment. Long story short (and 250 dollars later), the product did not work and my hair was the same as before I entered the salon. I would have appreciated being told when I called to make the appointment - rather than being informed once I had already made the trip there and was sitting in the salon chair. I would have gone somewhere else had I known, and instead I was forced to make the choice when I had already ...read more
I'm a guy and I've been going to Shine Hairdressers in Kensington for ages, and I can tell you that they have always given me a great cut and have taken a lot of time to consider what would look best for my face, and not just do the standard short back and sides that you get at a barber (you know, like the barbers that could pick up the clippers in a shearing shed and fleece a flock, no questions asked) and not once in all that time have they ever been distracted, or sub standard, or unreasonably priced.
That guy below (badhair87), if he wants the barber shop, cookie cutter hair style and price, (like it's still the 1950s), he need only walk up the road and go ...read more
Just had my hair cut there and was very disappointed (so much so that I registered an account here just so I could write a review).
$57 for a wash, conditioning and cut (I'm a guy btw, so that's pretty expensive). Service was unfriendly, the person who cut my hair didn't smile once and was clearly distracted. I think they had another customer waiting on them as she kept looking over at this woman who had some stuff in her hair and was reading a book. They seemed to rush through my haircut, it was uneven and badly styled. Never going back there, I could have gotten a better haircut for $15 down the road in Kingsford.
They have a bunch of awards up in their display window, but after having experienced their service, I have no idea how they won them.
It sounds like this guy is use to going to cheap $10 hair cuts. If you had a problem with money, ask how much the service will cost you first. Also, were you having a bad day to start off with, to assume the hairdresser was rude to you?? Sorry, this doesn't sound like the same Shine Hair Salon at Kensington that I go to.
