Silk Road
Travel back in time and explore the pilgrimage connecting East and West Asia to the Mediterranean Sea, travelled by the likes of Marco Polo, in the Silk Road restaurant, Melbourne. Stunningly decorated, Silk Road serves a fusion of Asian cuisine, and opens out into a bar, the entire venue hosting up to 1000 people within its 1930’s heritage listed walls. Open Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm, Silk Road is a dining experience like no other.
More hippodrome than bar, Silk Road is big and hip and glam – all eight bars and two mezzanine levels of it. There’s bling, huge sparkling chandeliers and a loose theme of the Silk Road with some cheeky versions of Michelangelo frescoes thrown in. What to drink? A fruity cocktail. What to wear? A silk cocktail dress and sky-high heels (read: suits for the guys). What to bring? A diamond clutch and a friend with a black credit ...read more

This is a stunning venue for a night out. Full of opulent design reminiscent of another time. The staff is great and the ambience quite unique. This is an excellent spot for a function. It's not a cheap place so get out that titanium credit card and respect the strict dress code or you won't be admitted.
**DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANY FUNCTIONS!!!** staff very unprofessional and uninformative. Totally ruined my birthday, flew all the way from Sydney with family and friends, rang an hour before to ensure everything was fine, to show up on time and be told there is a special night that required guys to wear suits. was told sorry I could not be helped, unfortnately SORRY just isn't good enough!!! I expected more from a venue of this status!!!!!!
Silk road totally blew me away, I was expecting a quite little cocktail lounge (didn't do my research) and walked into one of the busiest parties in Melbourne. The rooms took my breath away with the detail of the paintings, chandeliers and furniture. The drinks are very pricey but when you see this place you can understand why but there are plenty of staff on hand to serve. the dance floor was packed maybe a little too packed at times as it is a rather small corner in an otherwise large venue but I highly recommend it for a fancy night out in your favourite new cocktail dress as this is the place to be seen.
(Note: they can be pretty picky on the door so Boys and Girls Dress to Impress!)
