Silkwood School

Very very disappointing ??... would not recommend this school ... don't even think about enrolling. They request $100 application fee. Then told 3 yr wait list. Guessing that's how the school survives with all these unexpected donations from unaware families who can't afford ??

This review relates to the middle school. I was happy with Silkwood as a primary school however the curriculum failed to expand to add any educational value as children progress. The one positive is that the bushland setting is lovely and Miss Mel the music teacher is awesome. The integrated unit concept may work for Primary School but by high school I wanted my child to be learning science, IT, design, play sport and learn practical skills like woodwork, humanities etc. Instead they are still teaching fairy tales and sword fighting with the same teacher for all subjects for 3 years (except Italian & Music) with Mathematics just done online using Maths pathways. I moved my child to another school at the start of this year and was shocked during the interview process for alternate schools that students coming from Silkwood were considered far behind and often struggle to transition. I would definitely not recommend this school, as a former student I am quite aware of the gaps they leave in your education and failures to deliver on promises.

This school gave me a clear pathway in the direction of my passion. Highly recommend!

I'm afraid I have to agree with SkyandJohn and Sam1966. I can only refer to the Middle School as that is where my child was for three years. I know many parents who are happy with the primary school. I truly regret sending my child there and feel I have failed him. Full of promises but under delivered due to teething/ directional issues. The curriculum is a hodge podge of combined subjects into Integrated Units that claims to cover the national curriculum but it's all so ridicoulously shallow and superficial. No testing, except for ocassionally in mathematics, so your child will be ill prepared for further study. In fact, I was told for most university courses you don't need to take exams! I had my child independently assessed for literacy when he left and he was 6 years behind where he should have been. He'd been rated effective and competent in it on his last Silkwood school report.
