Silo Bakery
Few things beat the smell of freshly baked bread first thing in the morning and Silo Bakery in Kingston is just the place to go and enjoy it. There's a delicious range of gourmet meals available for breakfast and lunch, such as the asparagus bruschetta, or the blue cheese and mushroom pizza. There is also a mouth watering selection of pastries and tarts, baked fresh daily.
Delicious! My friend and I dropped in to pick up some bread and goodies for breakfast and even at 8am the place was packed! The brioche was divine, the croissants yummy and the tarts delicious. My husband loved the vanilla brulee tart I brought back from Canberra for him. If you live in Canberra or if you're visiting, I think this is a must-go for foodies. Apparently the breakfast is amazing too, but I think you'd have to be there at 7am to get a seat!
The food here was absolutely great and the coffee, juices and hot chocolates were yummy. Initially we werent served or greeted when we walked in and stood there feeling a bit awkward. It is a very popular place so we ended up on a small table out the back which was a bit....cosy. The staff werent the friendliest. Seemed a little pretentious! However the food was fabulous. We got served by a lovely young guy when we paid. He was very polite and happy and made up for the not so happy service initially. We were served relatively quickly when we sat down and the food didnt take long. It was great to see some different things a breakfast menu rather than the usual things you see everywhere.
Talk about overrated. Some staff that waft around behind the counter seem utterly disinterested in attending to customers, and when they finally do notice one's presence are impatient and unfriendly. The cramped space in front of the counter makes it extremely difficult to line up effectively for take away and paying one's bill and it's always hard to get a table given this place's unfathomable popularity. The display of pastries, tarts and breads is a feast for the eyes but never quite lives up to its promise, and is overpriced to boot. The poured concrete flooring, high ceilings, pendant lamps and cool taupe colour scheme are chic but rather cold and uninspiring on a grey Canberra day. I keep returning to this placing trying to understand what all the fuss is about but I think it's time to give up and leave it to the beautiful people.
