SkyHigh Mount Dandenong
SkyHigh Mount Dandenong
Get some perspective and escape the noise and pressures of the concrete jungle. Less than 1 hour (from the Melbourne CBD) you can be SkyHigh - on the uppermost reach of the Dandenong Ranges, amid cool fern glades and lush towering (native) forest, looking at the big picture, from the Mornington Peninsula across the majestic sweep of Port Phillip Bay, surrounded by Melbourne's growing urban fringes, to the You Yangs on the southern horizon.
After sunset the southern sky, brilliant in the clear mountain night, is imitated by a spectacular carpet of city light. First established as a survey point in 1861 this historic area, which has recently undergone a lavish and sympathetic redevelopment, affords a unique overview of Greater Melbourne.
Enjoy the unparalleled vista from the SkyHigh Bistro or fire up a public barbecue; spread a rug and picnic on the elevated viewing terrace. SkyHigh has something for the whole family including:-
* English garden
* Australiana Tree
* Percy Possums House
* Giant's Chair
* Adventurous SkyHigh Maze
* Trail walks in the Dandenong Ranges National Park
* Wishing Tree
* Arthur Streaton Monument
* Viewing Binoculars
* Cake and coffee
Take in the big picture from the summit of the Dandenong Ranges. Sweeping views from the Mornington Peninsula to Port Phillip Bay then across the city landscape to the You Yangs in the south. The bistro offers good family dinners or high tea and you can’t get much higher than ...read more
It is school holiday and we went there for a visit. There were activities for the kids during the holiday such as crafts, jumping castle, mini golf, animal farm... Lovely gardens and there are walks in the forest with a lookout. We did not go into the Bistro this time. Entry is paid per vehicle.
On a sunny and warm Sunday, lunch at this Bistro is busy. There's a constant stream of customers wanting to enjoy the view, the experience and some lunch. I did this with four companions. We booked for 12-30 and ordered drinks. We ordered food soon after. All the food was very nice - a fresh hot Cobb dripping with garlic butter, giant Chicken schnitzel with chips, Angus beef burger in bun and chips, tasty Tomato & Basil Soup with toast; and a Pumpkin Salad. Unfortunately the service let the whole thing down. Drinks delivered without glasses; Soup without a spoon; garlic bread without side plates, worst of all though - there was far too long to wait for food. After the Garlic bread was finished, the rest of the food didn't arrive for an hour and then not all at the same time, so some diners had to watch their food go cold while we waited for the rest of the meals to arrive. Very disappointing and not good when you're trying to welcome overseas visitors, as I was.
Went there for our Valentines dinner last night. Quite disappointed given that we paid a decent sum over the phone so as to guarantee our spot there. While the food was good, the atmosphere wasn't. While all the tables were pre-set with napkins and Valentine's chocolates, ours wasn't. When I asked for napkins the response wasn't overall very welcoming. Although in an enclosed outdoor area, there were still many insects flying around and landing on our food with no form of pest control apparent. Other's seemed to get offered bread rolls with their mains whereby we didn't. There were large delays between courses. The wait staff told us they were going to go get our dessert "now" and didn't return for half an hour. Our mains were more or less "dumped" on our table with little or no pleasantness from the wait staff. They also seemed keen to leave used drink glasses (which we had deliberately stashed at the end of the table for obvious collection) there until the ...read more
I have been rather disappointed with yesterday's visit to Skyhigh. Not happy about a $5 parking fee and then barely able to find a spot. The maze is ridiculously small and done within 10 minutes if at all. After meandering the grounds we had to put up with hordes of pesky Kookaburras who have been fed madly by the people overtaking the whole place. No staff member in sight to shoo away those birds... almost worse than seagulls. Then we had some hot food in the Bistro area. Food was extremely overpriced and of inferior quality. My foccaccia arrived after everyone else has already finished; it has been forgotten in the sandwich press and was rock hard. I went to the counter to be met by the rudest wait staff who felt personally attacked by my friendly request for a replacement. We certainly will not go back there. We will also warn everyone of that place.
