Soda Rock

Go back in time to 1960’s America at Soda Rock. Serving classic American food like crispy fries, hamburgers, hot fudge sundaes and flavoured coke, Soda Rock is also home to a working 1940’s jukebox, and if you’re lucky you might even witness an impromptu dance or two from the serving staff. The restaurant is also available for group bookings, and is open 7 days a week, every day of the year.

An American style diner that had been around for a while on a corner of Toorak Rd & Chapel St. We had all the different Hot Dogs in the menu and a thick shake. Glad we did not order chips or anything more. The hot dogs are pretty filling if you are not a very big eater. Thick shake is quite big. They are fine. The diner is not big but well set complete with Elvis, memorabilia, pin ball machine, jukebox, candy and ice cream bar. Seatings are tight, not much leg space.

The waitresses dance.

Recommend the big bopper, this place is set out like a 50's diner with 50c jukeboxes on your table and young staff in those little paper hats. Scared the heck out of me when we put the coin in the jukebox and the waitresses ran out to us and started shaking their tail feathers, turns out it was just a coincidence

I went to Soda Rock Diner because I had nothing better to do. We sat down on the benches which reminded me of public transport because they were old, ugly and completely torn apart.

My request for ice cream was responded to by the staff with the command that I have to get off the bench and order it from the counter. No service when ...read more

Unlike other American nostalgia restaurants, the Soda Rock Cafe is less like a storeroom cluttered with memorabilia, and more like an actual 60s diner. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food everyone was satisfied with their burgers (even the vegie burger), and I discovered that French fries are much better when served with cheese. The wait-staff do their dance routine very frequently, which possibly explains their lack of enthusiasm when dancing, and their clumsiness and forgetfulness when serving. Nevertheless, it was an interesting experience; I will definitely be back for another cookies and cream sundae, and I recommend the Soda Rock Caf as a novelty source of nice burgers.

The most exciting place ever. The waitresses dance. The food is good for what it is. Great environment and atmosphere!
