***Please note I am reviewing the breakfast and not their famed dinner menu - although I will be back***
One of the best breakfasts of the year with masterful flavours and techniques only possible by a kitchen of this calibre. The buffet may look basic but look closer, the amazing flavours of Japan are hidden in combination with nearly everything on the table. Definitely a meal worthy of early morning travel to The Star. Sokyo is a marvel and I need to get back for dinner ASAP!!

This is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Sydney. Every time is fantastic - from a la carte to the omakase. The bar is dimly lit & plush with amazing cocktails & complimentary snack. The restaurant is contemporary, sleek & very noisy! Which may be the only slight negative. Its great for couples and groups & the menu has so many delicious offerings. There are traditional sushi, nigiri & sashimi but I love the modern interpretation of these dishes. The sashimi are sweet & beautifully presented, tempura is light as air & the robata grilled items are charred and smokey. Mains are quite substantial & filling & desserts light. A great wine list that is super affordable & can be indulgent. Omakase is one of the best in Sydney but be prepared to book 7 months in advance. Service is efficient & friendly.
We had been hearing many good things for a long time about Sokyo at the Star, not only their Japanese dinner, but also their buffet breakfast. As we began 2018, we decided it was finally time to visit. Do make sure you book ahead of time as it can be hard to secure a spot.
In attendance were our insta foodie friends and contributor Sakinav and one of the best food bloggers in Sydney: Spooning Australia, as acclaimed by the Good Food Guide. We all met at Sokyo, a modern restaurant with floral displays, neatly set tables and an inviting buffet. The place very much had a hotel feel.

My cousin and her partner always visit here when they come to Sydney. I have never been here so what better opportunity than now. Waking up at the crack of dawn I headed off to The Star as they needed to fit an early breakfast before their flight.
The breakfast they serve here is Japanese inspired and reflects greatly in the variety of food they serve here. The service is phenomenal. They always made sure you needed for nothing and always so polite. They cleared the plates promptly and always made sure if we ever needed more coffees. The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and soothing as well. It has a nice vibe to ...read more
I had always wanted to visit Sokyo for quite some time, so it was nice that I finally had the reservation for one Saturday evening. The place was very contemporary with bar at one side and sushi bar dining area on another, separated by a walkway through to the hotel.
The combination low-to-medium ambiance and slightly upbeat tunes on the background makes this supposedly premium establishment feel a little more casual.
The sushi bar offers Japanese fusion food offerings of mostly 'tapas-size' which are perfect for sharing — although the serving sizes were actually quite ...read more
