Do NOT buy a lounge from Solid Grain!!!
We bought a lounge 4 years ago. 10 months after owning it, it started to look as though the leather had cellulite! The weird part was that this was occurring in an area of the lounge where there was NO weight applied, as it was the middle section of the chase where your knees would rest over. Then we saw a slight tear appear, as though the leather was separating. We called Solid Grain and they would not come out to investigate ( great after service - NOT!). So we took a photo of the tear and took it in, the staff refused to look at the photo. OMG we could not believe it. We asked the them to ring us about our issue. Time went on of chasing ...read more
I bought a bicast leather couch from Solid Grain almost 4 years ago for a $1000 and after extensive use it is still as good as the day it was delivered. The springs are finally starting to soften. I thought this would, and wanted this to happen sooner. Says something about the good quality of the springs. The frame feels as solid as it did when it was brand new. The bicast leather looks and feels fabulous. At the same time I bought two pigmented leather armchairs for $650 each from another store. One of them is peeling and I will have to replace it as at my own cost as it is well out of it's warranty. I am going to King Street first to see what I can replace both of the chairs with before I go to the other store to bargain for another new chair (with pics of the scraggy chair!)
Solid Grain or the other? Solid Grain for me.

We purchased a lounge from Solid Grain (nothing solid about it!!) two years ago. The lounge was sold to us as leather and after a little over two years, the lounge is peeling like a badly sunburnt pom!! The lounge has had limited use and has been cared for like leather lounge should. After contacting not so Solid Grain they cited environmental/ climactic conditions for the rapidly deteriorating lounge!! It has gotten to the point that we are embarrassed to have people over to see or sit on the scabby lounge. Solid Grain does not want to assist in resolving the issues we have with their product as they sold it with a "one year warranty". By all means spend your hard earned cash at Solid Grain BUT only if plan on sitting on it for a year. Great value for money from a SOLID furniture store???!!! I think not.
It was exactly the same for us. Solid Grain in Newtown sold us the sofa as real leather but after 3 years it slowly started peeling. Now after 4 years in use, the sofa looks so bad it's embarrassing to invite people over. It's obviously vinyl or another type of fake leather but not the real thing. The frame and foam are still in a pretty good state but we won't have another choice than to throw it out.
Excellent quality solid timber furniture, good range and prices. Used to be situated down-the-way near the station, now it's up near Newtown Thai II, further towards the city, still on King St. A must destination for leather couch shoppers. Service from Shellie was excellent.
i would have to disagree. they were terribly blunt, cold, and rude. when i asked to speak to the management (over the phone, minutes after i had walked out of the shop feeling like i had been treated like a schmuck) they asked me a thousand questions about the nature of my call, and then after i told them i just wanted to talk to the owner they told me that the store was shut, mind you it was one minute past close time. this is appalling customer service, and from the reviews i'm reading i'm glad i didn't end up buying anything there! no wonder they're closing. customer service and quality product are always great assets to any business. and having a business of my own, i would definitely have a word with the staff at SG.
