I lost my 7& half Border Collie 3 weeks ago. I am 100% certain on reflection the Vet caused the death of my dog by administrating a painkiller. My dog showed zero signs of pain. The blood results taken prior showed all negative for poisons, toxins, bacteria. I recieved a call from Reception expecting to be told my dog was ready to pick up or stay. Instead to my absolute shock was told he'd passed !!??. Going down the Vet explained all tests clear. He gave him pain relief as precaution. Left the room for minutes, returned, my dog had passed. He had no explanations as to why ? Very sorry. After research ad speaking to another Vet my dog should never have been given painkillers without cause. Being a large dog, seems he was given too high a dose ? For no reason. Known to cause death in dogs. Thing is, this is the 3rd dog I have lost from there. First, another Border Collie, 11. Advised euthanasia. Agreed after his advice. I stayed, held my girl while he missed the vain 3 ...read more
I have a vet two blocks away from my house (the Marion Road Small Animal Hospital) but I choose to take my pets to Dr Hill every time. It's not just that he's an avian vet - I have birds and you're placing your birds' lives at risk if you take them to a non-avian vet - but he's also an outstanding vet for my cats. I've had some questionable experiences at the vet down my street, my cat having had an operation some years ago and was passed through about 4 different hands from his admittance. Due to this 'system' they neglected to microchip him while he was under as I'd asked.
It's my belief that you'll always get better service from a one vet clinic than you will from a multi-vet business. Dr Hill also tries to accommodate you if you're on a strict budget I've found - just talk to him about it. He's suggested a series of cheaper treatements for my cat rather than one expensive operation. He also treats injured native wildlife. I'd recommend him to anyone.
I won't be using this vet again. I felt like I was being kicked out of the door as soon as I stepped foot inside the consult room. The vet did not take the time to explain any of the treatment options to me and seemed more concerned about the cost of treatment rather than the welfare of my animal.
This has to be one of the busiest clinics I have been to...I guess that says it all really. However, I will continue to say that the staff are lovely and all have an obvious love of all creatures, great and small. Dr Hill is always wonderful with my pets and I have often seen him chatting to his clients in the waiting room as if they were friends not just clients. I have had conversations with others whilst waiting to see him and it is surprising to hear that people travel from all over Adelaide (and some from the country areas) just to see him. I would recommend this clinic to anyone and I would not go anywhere else.
We have been also been using this clinic since it opened 20 years ago and the staff have always been exceptional. We have always been treated with respect and empathy and our pets have always been given the absolute best treatment possible. I have recommended them to so many of my friends who have also passed on my recommendations to theirs. They are an extremely busy practice, which in itself means that a lot of people like them, but will always find time to see me or talk to me over the phone if I am concerned at all about my pets. Mark is a kind person who obviously knows his stuff and it is quite clear that the welfare of the pets in his care is of paramount importance. The nurses are all delightful and are always polite and friendly and are extremely knowledgeable about veterinary care. I agree with the review that their concern for and empathy with animals is second to none.
