Sophie Weston is an experienced flute teacher who has taught both privately and in schools. Lessons generally take place in her home music studio where there is a rich supply of teaching resources. Sophies fun and energetic teaching style focuses on the student developing a strong personal sound, brilliant musicianship and an excellent technique whilst also introducing the student to elements of performance practice, famous flautists and their recordings, productive approaches to home practice, history and theory. Prospective students of all ages and levels (beginner to advanced) should feel welcome to contact Sophie for lessons.

Sophie is currently studying a Master of Music (Music Performance) at the University of Melbourne. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Performance with Gerhard Mallon at the Qld Conservatorium, Griffith University with an award for academic excellence in 2009. With over five years teaching experience Sophie provides high quality flute tuition in a fun, relaxed environment. Sophie has been a finalist in the prestigious James Carson Memorial Competition and has received scholarships such as the James Carson Flute Scholarship in 2005 and also a Most scholarship. She has been a member of many notable ensembles including the Chamber Orchestra, and Baroque, New Music and World Music ensembles at the Qld Conservatorium, and is principal flute and piccolo player in the jazz and improvising group The Mute Canary Project directed by world class saxophinist Elliott Dalgleish. ...read more
