South Melbourne Market Dim Sims
Closed until Wednesday
8:00 am - 4:00 pm
I specifically drove over to South Melbourne market today to have the famous south Melbourne dim sims. I has been quite some time since I had them, the queue is always long which was no surprise, the seats all filled up with hungry diners enjoying the same dish. It definitely has been some time, as I dont recall a single dim sim price been $2.50. Service is very fast and efficient, as everything is pre-made it was order, pay and go. The dim sims were superb, although I do think its on the premium side for a small fried meat ball, its quite filling 1 is never enough I find however 2 is pushing it for me as it gets a bit too much. There is something about this market that I really like, the atmosphere, the variety of cuisines, the number of people passing by, the nicely presented fruits, its definitely a place to visit for those who has never been.
These plus-sized dumplings are a Melbourne icon at the South Melbourne market. The place is situated/run like a hole in the wall and have made their home at the South Melbourne Market for over 50 years. I usually come pick up one of these guilty delights whenever I make a trip to the market and the mushroom soy that goes with it is super more-ish although I recommend resisting the temptation not putting too much as the meet in these dimmies are already salty enough. You can purchase the dim sims in a fried or a steamed form and make sure you try the spring rolls as well. I understand that more locations of this place have opened in the Melbourne CBD including one in the Emporium as well.
