I've gone back a few times and every time I do, I ask myself why?
I try and support small, local businesses as much as possible (being a small business owner myself) but I won't be going back to Spoon at East Brisbane. The wait staff are lacklustre and can't seem to process the simplest of requests, the food is average but somewhat overpriced and the coffee... Well, if you like paying a premium for flavourless warm milk, this is the place for you.
I can tolerate the average breakfast food and I'm happy to avoid the coffee and drink something else, but the customer service is the true reason I won't be returning.
After a harrowing morning for my poor husband at the Mater Hospital - he was quite hungry at 1.45 and so was I, so I told him I'd take him to the lovely Spoon cafe which I'd been to many times a couple of years ago. We drove quite a detour to go there. I used to take clients there and hold staff meetings there. Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere. Not any more.
After standing at the counter for 5 or 6 minutes while the wait staff polished coffee cups and watched us, while the wait staff worked their butt off preparing coffees, they finally ambles over and looks at us, No apology for keeping us waiting - no greeting at all. Hi, I have just received your feedback. I'm totally shocked that one of my team members would speak in this way to a customer. If you could please let me know when this occurred so I can deal with it in house. I would love you to please contact me so we can talk about your unpleasant experience. As the owner I try to be there as much as I can. I really feel disappointed not only for yourself but for me as a business owner as I take pride in my business but obviously I can't control everything my staff say and do. Hi Shawny, I would be happy to comment on the coffee and the food, it was nice, when it arrived. Unfortunately this was not a once off occurrence. On our very first visit to your establishment we were also facing a 40 minute wait for food, a ridiculous timeframe to the point where we ended up leaving without ordering and taking our business elsewhere. The second visit was better, but I would have to say only marginally. The third visit, prompting this initial review due to sheer frustration. Just last weekend we came in, ordered food and coffee (all of which was very nice), and there was only a 20 minute wait. I assumed you had done something about the wait time to cut it in half like this. (kudos to you on that one). Now, however, it is my turn to be perplexed. I do not go around making timeframes up.
