certainly not the care I was expecting to recieve. The surgery staff and anaesthetist were fantastic. Though I only saw them for about 10 minutes. However the next thing I remember is waking up in day surgery. Being honest, the nurse I had was good when she came over. However, I had to ask for water I had to ask for food and was never offered it. Eventually I was forced out of the bed and onto a couch ready to be discharged. I was honestly not communicated to at all, I felt like I was dumped in a room to free up space an for beds. Patients were coming in 20 mins after I got into the room and leaving 10-15 mins after their arrival. Eventually after about 45 mins they gave me water which I asked for tested me and then I was off. Totally understandable they they may have needed to monitor me longer, but how would I have known that when I wasnt even spoken to??? I am actually a student ambo/nurse and the lecturers honestly can't keep going on to us any ...read more
This hospital would be excellent for an overnight stay. My 9yr old son had surgery and was in hospital for 5 nights. Even though we had booked in 11 weeks ahead of his surgery and I had rung to make sure I could stay with him in the room, when he arrived on the ward there was no bed available for me and they had to search the hospital for one while I waited 3 1/2 hrs. The food was horrible and serving children chicken nuggets and chips for dinner every night was disappointing, especially considering he was very nauseuos. The communication between the nursing staff and the doctor was limited. If your child needs more than 2 nights in hospital I would consider using the Mater Children's Private Hospital , which is what we will be doing next time.
I am very disappointed to say my experience with St Andrews War Memorial Hospital was appalling. Being incorrectly informed of costs of procedures and receiving a bill in the mail for triple the amount I was told. They would not consider my appeal in relation to this issue. They also provided me with incorrect information which lead to an excessive amount of expense. When I discovered the incongruence I attempted to have the issue reviewed to which I was told that they had followed policy and procedure and would not accept my request. I didnt think it was policy and procedure to lie/provide misinformation to patients in order to gain financial benefit and to not rectify their error. I understand mistakes can be made and that is ok however it is not ok to take advantage of people financially. I am very disappointed with the outcome of this and I will not be recommending St Andrews to anyone. To top it all off, some of the staff were very rude which I found very disappointing.
