Not a bad place for a feed in the city( right opposite the men's wear department of David Jones) . I'm not vegetarian, but I chose the lentil and haloumi burger for my dinner, it was delicious. Friends had steak and hubby had fish and chips, which he said was good. We say in the basement, which of course has no windows. Staff were friendly and I can't complain, it was a quiet night perhaps as it's peak holiday season and lots of people are away. It was enjoyable and the wine we drank was good and local. Fair prices too.
There is nothing particularily special about this pub outside that fact that is it right next to my office. Therefore I go there for lunch from time to time. I usually get the $13 schnitzel with salad and chips. It's yummy and I have fun. However, the atmosphere is really nothing to rave about and to be honest the wait is always really long. Good for big groups, just not for when you are in a rush.
The St James Hotel is conveniently located right on Castlereagh Street in the heart of the city and it is a really good escape from the craziness of Sydney's CBD. It has a sports bar, pub feel with a bit more ritzy decor. The crowd is usually post-work professionals but the place is so spacious you don't really need to mingle and each table feels relatively private. The bistro is decent, quick service, good food menu and at great prices. A good all-rounder for a city-catch up that doesn't break the bank.
