Still my favourite pool, spa and sauna combo in Melbourne! I went with friends after a day at Republica and on the beach and it was the perfect end to a hot summer's day to relax in the gentle waves of the saltwater spa. You can really sweat out those Christmas indulgences in the sauna and enjoy some gentle laps in the seawater pool. Everything is clean, so no need to worry about hygiene.
I'm always one to keep an open mind so when I decided to start using the pool, spa and sauna as a casual user I had a much better experience. The pool is fabulous, the spa is very enticing after a good swim and the sauna is great. Rates are reasonable for casual use and there are student/pensioner concessions. Visits are also not timed, which is great. I recommend coming during a less busy time if possible to enjoy it to the maximum eg weekday mid-morning or late afternoon.
The St Kilda Sea baths are a St Kilda icon. The saltwater pool and spa are lightly chlorinated so it doesn't have quite so much of that pool smell and I think seawater is beneficial. Having said that I was a member of the gym. Even after I discontinued my membership over the telephone three times, I had to finally cancel my credit card to stop the direct debits.
There was ALWAYS a problem with my parking validation and I invariably paid more. The queues to sort out parking are crazy (especially if you need to get to work) Of course that is if you can FIND parking. The gym membership just isn't worth the money- the Pilates was great but some of the other instructors were plainly awful especially one of the yoga instructors, which is ironic. The view is nice but most of the classes face the other way anyway. I now use the pool, spa and sauna occasionally and frequent another gym. It does open early (5:30am)
