Stag Hotel
The renovated Stag dining room oozes class without being pretentious, from the magnificent wrought iron chandelier to the attentive and educated waiting staff. Big windows give views to East Tce and the parklands, while the split-level interior has subtle lighting over a creamy decor, melodic music, carpet, leather chairs and plenty of glassware on the tables. A curved bar runs to a doorway giving a peek to the outer bars. The beef cheek ragout entree is magnificent, a small pie of the most tender beef served with black cherry jus, while the ravioli of chicken and porcini is three portions of top-shelf pasta. Very swish without being stuffy.

Beautiful revamped venue with parklands view. Fabulous meal of crispy, crumbed whiting, chips and veg. Couldn't fault it.....and very reasonable price.
Lovely outlook to the parklands opposite while sipping on a drink.
A must to return to for more delicious food and great service from the friendly, efficient staff.
There is one thing that stands out about this place, and that is the moniker that they are Adelaide's worst vegetarian restaurant. I'm not sure if by saying that they are dropping hints as to the type of people they don't want here, or they are simply implying that their steak is so good. Personally, I really can't say because I don't believe that I have ever ordered steak here. In fact the only thing I have ever ordered is beer. Still, the place does bring back some memories, such as the time I managed to slip upstairs to the night-club after being denied entry (and I thank my lady friend for her assistance with that) or when the staff offered to send me and my work collegues upstairs because it was too crowded downstairs. However, this place does get awfully crowded, so it is really only a place that I come to with friends (or are simply visiting my favourite pubs in Adelaide).
We hit the Stag for a pre-Fringe show. Between us we ordered a lamb salad, a steak, a beef salad and the steak sandwich. Both the salads were a meal and the steak was cooked as requested. The steak sandwich, whilst tasty, was not the most exciting steak sandwich I've ever had and the bread to filling ratio was off - the bread dwarfed the ingredients. The menu failed to mention that it came with steak fries - the fries were excellent! Even though it was busy the service was attentive all night.
The staff were great, even though it's Christmas and it was a Friday night and we hadn't made a booking, they managed to squeeze us in but warned us that a table was booked after us. No worries. Very knowledgeable about the menu. Large menu that focusses on steak which I wasn't interested in that night but the fish was great. The two other steaks at the table were cooked properly and tender and the fries were good. Can recommend the chorizo platter for a starter.
