State Library of South Australia

Well, if you love books then you certainly cannot go past the State Library of South Australia. It isn't a lending library by the way (it used to have a lending library on its premises, but that has since moved) however that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't worth a visit. The do have a reference section which contains every book ever published in South Australia, but as well as that there is a museum that documents the history of South Australia from settlement to the modern day. There are also a couple of small art galleries host exhibitions that are South Australian in character, as well as a media centre with computers available for use. You don't necessarily need to use their computers either because they have free wi-fi available. The place has certainly changed a lot since I used to regularly visit here as a kid, though these days I could simply spend the entire day sitting in the Mortlock library marvelling at all the old books.
You can't borrow books from the state library. Besides that it is great. They have a big section for family history research which I have used a bit. There are directories for SA and some other states, shipping records, newspapers on microfishe and all sorts of resources that you can't access any other way. I even found one of the only copies of a 'Visitation of Cornwall' there.
