Steki Taverna
Steki Taverna is practically a Sydney institution, having first opened its doors twenty five years ago in November 1983 and have been serving authentic Greek food ever since.
In Greek the word 'steki' translates to a hangout, meeting place or a place where someone frequents. Thus it's perfect that Steki Taverna is known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, as well as delicious traditional Greek food and fantastic live music.
Small and large groups are welcome to dance and enjoy the atmosphere to the early hours of the ...read more

My friend Connie took us here last Saturday night as the Greek band was playing. This place is small and quaint, food was nice, seating a bit cramped but it is very different and we felt like we were in Greece! The ouzo got us in the mood for a dance so we were all up as the bazooki player played (i think that's what they call it!) - the only thing left to be desired was no smashing plates. Still a great night out with a lot of character - recommended
The music was too loud and the place is so tiny for so loud music, I had fish platter which was disappointing, Poor service and very LOUD MUSIC Tavern or kutuki means nice cozy environment keep the music authentic and people go there to eat and talk at the same time- civilized. Sea food is not your specialty I wouldn't recommend it.
came to the Steki a couple of weeks ago for a birthday and we were not dissapointed the food was very nice and very generous with their servings, you must get the banquet so you can sample a bit of everything. This place is quite small and can be a bit too loud but it makes it for a cozy experience in way, also toward the later stages of the night you can do some traditional greek dancing as well. i am not too sure about the review belows comments i have never heard of someone compalin about having too much food and that 5 extra dollars is probably a credit card fee since you would have paid via credit card and most restaurants would charge that. Overall a lovely dining experience and i would definetly be back
I went to the Steki with a couple of friends who were craving a little Greek cuisine and it hit the spot. Wonderful atmosphere, beautiful music. I strongly recommend the lamb, it was soft and juicy.
With Newtown mainly consisting of Thai resturants, the Steki provides a little diversity of choosing something else to eat :)
