Stokehouse

Water views across Port Phillip Bay

'Without doubt, the best lunch of the year' - John Lethlean, the Age.

Anthony Musurra has been leading the kitchen at the Stokehouse for a couple of years now with great acclaim. His contemporary Australian food, coupled with leading local and imported wines, are matched with an uninterupted view across Port Phillip Bay. They make for the ultimate dining trifecta.

The Stokehouse also features a private dining room which seats 30 - ideal for a long lazy birthday lunch or a corporate dining event that is guaranteed to have you and your guests return.

?¢??It?¢??s such a perfect day, I?¢??m glad I spent it with you. Oh such a perfect day...?¢?? It?¢??s the song you have to sing, bubbles in hand, exported to the bliss of Sunday lunch at The Stokehouse. Look out the wall of windows as seagulls swoop through the orange light of the late afternoon sun over St Kilda pier. Upstairs, downstairs? Up, of course, for chilled oysters with chilli ginger, spaghettini with Queensland spanner crab, delicious roast jurassic quail with Iranian figs and pistachios sinking into a sherry reduction, sided seductively with lemon-scented winter greens with salted ricotta. All this followed by The Bomb for dessert and oh it was: strawberry crushed meringue and frozen white chocolate parfait.

Had a beautiful meal here with wonderful views of the sunset and beach. The interior is modern and sleek with warm wooden floors and panoramic windows. The service was fabulous and prompt, just discreet enough to allow for a romantic evening.

I was a huge fan of old Stokehouse and it was sorely missed when it closed after a fire a couple of years ago. The old Stokehouse had that 'Hamptons beach house' type feel plus great food and service. The great food and service of the new Stokehouse remain, but it's the building and fitout I'm still having trouble coming to terms with. From the outside the building looks like it just doesn't fit the location, something that should be in a much more urban setting. It will probably soften over time once the plants grow and it ages. It's inside the restaurant I really had problems with. The building looks so large but when you get to the actual restaurant upstairs it feels small for the size of the building. As if the kitchen and toilets were designed to be larger than the restaurant itself. I'm also not a fan of the 'natural' wood up the walls and on the ceiling (looks very unfinished, clunky and cheap) nor the 'burnt wood' effect on the windows - if you touch the ...read more

The Stokehouse has been rebuilt and risen like a phoenix from the ashes of its disastrous recent fire. It's definitely a new look for The Stokehouse; I'm just not sure I like it. It doesn't seem to really fit in with the local architecture and is so black and stark. I'm waiting to see if any finishing touches make it look more appealing. One thing's for sure: it's much bigger!

Great restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Staff were friendly & the service, spot on! I loved my seafood lunch. The Stokehouse is bright, airy an open. A great spot to catch up with friends.

The Stokehouse is right on the beach and serves a good variety of tasty dishes. It's not especially cheap- my fish and chips was $32 but the experience was great overall as was the service and food. Sitting outside you will unfortunately have to deal with all the smokers, so if that's a hassle, best to sit inside.
